An iPhone application has been developed called PhotoPrice for photographers to assist with pricing portrait and wedding photography services. It takes the guesswork out of your business. I haven't tried it, but I thought it may be another tool worth having in your toolbox.

The stars were out at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009 for the Soul Train Music Awards. I had a ringside view of the celebrities as they walked the red carpet. This year the show was hosted by Academy Award-nominated actors Terrence Howard and Tariji Henson.

I photographed a home about a month ago and I found out today it sold! That was exciting news to me because my photos played a part in the sell of the home. The pictures should encourage the potential buyer to take a tour.

Photography offers many opportunities and I'm opened to giving them all a shot. It's all about finding your niche(s) and working them.

On a recent visit to Tanglewood Farms I noticed the turkeys were having a problem getting along. They even had to be separated because their feathers were getting ruffled with one another. The farmer said they were territorial, but I think they know what time it is....Thanksgiving is right around the corner!

Submissions are invited for “Picturing Home,” a Friends of Emory Visual Arts juried photography exhibition to be on view Dec. 3 through Jan. 29, 2010 at the Visual Arts Gallery.

The deadline to enter is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 will be awarded to the top three entries, plus a 1-year subscription to Aperture magazine.

Entries can be images and combinations of images and words that investigate, comment on and test various dimensions of “home.”

Submission is open to all Friends of Emory Visual Arts, membership in which is included in the entry fee of $35; $30 for Emory staff, faculty and alumni for up to five digital images, and $5 each for each additional image.

The My Atlanta Exhibition Pin Up Show ended today. I was surprised to find out there were prizes! As the 3rd place winner, I received a certificate, a photo album, picture placements and a $15 gift certificate from Showcase Photography. It was a nice surprise because I wasn't expecting anything.

I was offered an opportunity by Sheryl Robertson, Director at the Independent Study Academy in Alpharetta, GA to hang some of my work. Three pieces of the "Train Ride" series now hang in the lobby of the Academy. The image of the bedroom was just awarded 3rd place in Atlanta Celebrates Photography pin-up show at the Piedmont Park Community Center, Atlanta, GA.

This High Key shot is from the shoot last week. Danielle Thomas was my model for the shoot. She is also a photographer in the Commercial Photography program at GTC. We had a great time! I'm looking forward to the fashion/beauty/fantasy assignment. I'm sure everyone will have their creative juices flowing and will come up with some amazing shots.

Yesterday we were shooting the High Key/Low Key assignment for Portraiture 2. I shot high key and used a bicycle as a prop. I'm working on the edits, pictures to come.

Studio Clout Open Studio: Figure Drawing

Studio Clout has open studio on Wednesdays from 7-10pm for visual artists. The cost is $10, $5 for students. I've gone a couple of times and have been the only photographer. It was a very nice atmosphere and I thoroughly enjoyed the time. The models hold poses for 15-20 min. so as a photographer you must come up with creative ways to shoot them.

I attended ACP's Le Flash and was able to see a live demonstration by Linda Costa painting with light at Studio Clout in Castleberry Hill. She has a unique style and it is fascinating to watch her work!

I had the opportunity to meet and photograph Isom Lowman (33 yr old Entrepreneur) for the career corner. He owns a number of Athlete's Foot Stores and has a great story! I also covered Sunday night of the Essence Music Festival 2009, the photos appear in the Art & Affairs section.

BET Hip Hop Awards Weekend 2009

The BET Hip Hop Awards will go down again in Atlanta on Saturday, October 10, but the celebs are arriving already for the weekend of events. I was hanging out today in Midtown at the W Hotel so I could possibly get some photo opps and my kids may possibly get a glimpse of some celebrities. The lobby of the W was kinda quiet, people were checking in and I was trying to figure out who was who. Rollin Out Magazine photographers were there setup for a photo shoot with Columbus Short. I met Joe Torry and was able to get a shot of him and one with him. I saw a few other people, but because I'm not that hip hop saavy I didn't know the names. We decided to take in some of the nice weather and people watch at Tap which is across the street from V-103 and that's when we spotted Rick Ross and later Snoop Dogg. My kids were able to get a photo with Snoop and he was very nice about it. He said, "you know I love the kids". Well, that made their day! Mine too.

Pet Shoot

Yesterday we had a pet photo shoot at GTC! There were BIG dogs, little dogs, cats, a ferret and a scorpion. It was funny to see how the animals reacted to each other, the lights and people. My dog, Zydeco had to relax and get comfortable in this new environment. It was a great learning experience!
